My friend Erin Belle has this darling clothing line of witty and fun screen printed tees and leggings. She just finished her newest lookbook and I was able to design some custom lace bell bottoms and velvet bloomers for the shoot! Post Halloween: Photobooth Edition

Hello Darlings! I hope you all had a lovely Halloween. Mine was filled with hot cider, candles, pumpkins, and last minute costumes! Here's a few (poor) photobooth shots of my outfits for the weekend! One night I recycled last year's costume as a Harlequin, I made a collar out of ruffled tulle and wore a black wig! The other was meant to be a sixties girl but I'm pretty sure I ended up looking like Jenny Humpherey from Gossip Girl....somewhere between her good girl at Constance phase and her raccoon eyes sullen goth teenager phase...no? Anyhow, I had fun, and already have ideas for next year....

Recent Work: Tunic Dresses and Beaded Slips!

As promised, here are some shots of the pieces I designed a few weeks ago!

The first one is one of my favorite pieces in a long time. I made it using silk fabric from a men's robe and vintage sheer netting! The beaded slip dress was created from a beaded muumuu and a vintage slip, and the navy top with a lace collar is a reconstructed slip. I definitely need to start taking photos of these pieces before AND after, because sometimes it's astonishing even to me:)

Yesterday I sewed up a storm on my day off, and will be bringing a whole load of new pieces to Local Honey at the end of the week. I'll be posting those pieces within the next few days.

Now it's off to work, in my AMAZING new plaid coat...I can't wait for you all to see it!

My Own Place and a Birthday

Hello my darlings! Where have I been, you ask? Well, in my absence I have been working overtime designing some stage outfits for a lovely pair of girls, I've moved out of my parents' house and over to East Nashville, and celebrated my 24th birthday. I'm a bit disorganized at the moment, but have much planned once everything gets back to normal for me. For now, I'll leave you with some photos of my new place! (Don't worry, I'll be sharing the pieces I designed soon, too!)

P.S. the kitten that makes a cameo in the photo with my work table is named Skinny Jeans (she adores my sewing chair), and Velveteen Rabbit is quite enjoying her new home on one of my shoe shelves...I even gave her a fur and a tiara to help make the move a bit less traumatizing.

One of my favorite things about my parents' house is the huge yard that my three cats LOVE to frolic about it in all day. They climb trees, roll in the grass, chase butterflies and just act all around outdoorsy adorable. My mom and I were on our way to Goodwill to do some vintaging (It's $1 Wednesday, duh), when I decided to snap some photos. Our tiny little black cat (he's tiny compared to our other massive one), Little Bee, decided he needed to not be in just one or two shots, but all of them. He does kind of match my new boots, non? Speaking of the boots, aren't they amazing? I bought them earlier this week as an early birthday present to myself. They're sparkly, have a fun leopard print lining, and they're so comfy. I've been wearing them to work as well (ok I bought them at work...details).

And Goodwill? I found some great vintage Laura Ashley dresses, some $1 velvet muumuus that I intend on cutting up for fabric. I also found some great black pieces that will work perfectly for a project I'm working on (more on that later, lovies!).

Style ADD: A Sunday Morning Musing

So I woke up today thinking about many things:

1.) How I need to get a move on with several projects that have ever looming deadlines (normal for me....oops)

2.) It's Sunday, and I'm off work! Waffles and coffee, then back to bed to snuggle for a bit longer? Ok!

3.) While catching up on several favorite blogs, and discovering some new ones too, I started to wonder about how I would describe my style to others. It kind of made me feel sad, because I never really know how to explain it to people. In my head, I usually just think that I like to play dress up, and leave it at that.

I think I wake up every morning and want to do something different. I adore vintage blouses with high-waisted skirts; I love simple black leggings with an oversized flannel shirt and droopy hat with combat boots; and some days I love throwing on a Betsey Johnson party dress with a blazer and 5 inch heels. And sometimes, I want to wear my combat boots with my party dress! Some days I wish I could define my style, but I'm not sure I really want to. I'm just so ADD with everything in my life....my hair, my clothes, and my inspirations. I think it's great that so many people have specific shapes and styles and colors that they wear, but that's just not me. Going forward, I'd like to think that I can stop trying to fit myself into any kind of box and just go with it. So what will I be wearing today? Tomorrow? Couldn't tell you. Let's find out :)

Today has been sort of a slow one for me. Yesterday the rest of our European company left and it's a bit glum around the house. I've been laying in bed catching up on Project Runway episodes, sipping coffee, and playing scrabble on my ipad.

Thursday we went to Cheekwood, the home of some beautiful botanical gardens, a mansion-turned-museum, and seasonal exhibits (in the spring they had the Russian Faberge eggs and crown jewels!). We had fun traipsing around and taking photos, looking at the lovely gardens and pieces of art tucked away into the woods (FYI Kate Spade flats were not the best choice for this impromptu hike of sorts). Afterwards we drove into Green Hills and ate some frozen yogurt at Sweet Cece's, and ended the night with more unhealthiness at a little barbecue place in Hendersonville.

PS: I'm 2 followers away from being at 100! So exciting! For the past month, one of our foreign exchange students from high school has been visiting Nashville, along with his girlfriend. Fabi and Mona are from Munich and we've been having so much fun doing all of the little touristy things in and around Nashville with them. Today I had the day off so we drove out to the famous restaurant Loveless Cafe, known best for their mouthwatering biscuits and traditional southern food (think fried chicken and mashed potatoes with lots of gravy!). After we filled up on yummy food we drove up the Natchez Trace into Leiper's Fork and and stopped for a soda at Puckett's Grocery and a little antiquing in the downtown area! Next we hit up downtown Franklin for some more boutique-ing (not a word you say? hm). I bought the most adorable long matches that come in a case with a little black cat on it at a store called Avec Moi (I also languished over the beautiful vintage jade and powder pink cake plates and dishes...).

PS as you can see I dyed my hair pink! I absolutely adore it, and while you can't really tell with my scarf/turban/I Love Lucy contraption on, there is a bit of purple on the side as well. Speaking of the turban, this has been my new go-to thing whenever I wake up and just don't feel like doing anything with my hair. It's super easy, and is a great alternative to throwing on a hat or a headband. I bought this scarf last week at Target when the Missoni line came out. Did anyone else manage to snag anything? I got several pairs of knee socks and some great purple tights as well.

Sitting here sunburnt at the beach! I have two more days of relaxation before it's back to real life! I am, however, bummed that I'm not back in Nashville tonight for Fashion's Night Out. The Mall at Green Hills is doing lots of little events store by store (Betsey Johnson always throws a great party with pink champagne, music, and giveaways!), so if you're around definitely try to make it!

So if you're wondering, yes, yes I did take this skirt off directly after taking these photos. With temperatures nearing 100 everyday for at least the past week, I've pretty much been either living indoors or in shorts and little dresses. I've been dreaming of putting this outfit together, though, since I got my Litas back in May and found this amazing leather skirt at Goodwill!

I plan on wearing it out one night or to a show when it cools down!

I've spent the last few days sewing like a crazy person (procrastination to blame) to have a mini summer collection of sorts ready for Local Honey's summer shopping event on Saturday. I can't wait to show you what I've created this time: seersucker and marbled fabric bloomers, reconstructed vintage onesies, and several new sailor tops!

And I realized that you all have not seen my orange hair. I've been kind of having a Hair-ADD year if you can't tell. (Green to red, to dark red, to orange...) Next I'm thinking pink! :)

We had so much playing dress up and staging an outdoor tea party with hanging teacups, doily lanterns, and mason jars filled with roses! I think we created the most beautiful wonderland and was sad to have to take it all down once it got dark. I can't wait to show you all the completed lookbook in a few weeks. After that I will be listing the entire collection on Etsy!

Love Simone Update: Local Honey Re-Stock

Here's what I've been working on for the past few weeks! Lots of reconstructed slips and bed jackets have hit Local Honey, as well as some ADORABLE bloomers. I'm kind of obsessed with them.....dreaming of different ways to wear them (pajamas, to the beach as a cute cover up, a picnic in the park...endless, right?!). The pink linen ones are made from a vintage tablecloth and the floral ones were made from fabric that I cut off of an ugly floor length dress! There's just something kind of exhilarating about cutting up something old and drab and making it into something entirely new.

I've decided to finally revamp my Etsy store and put up some of my summer bloomers and other reconstructed items since currently I only sell in Nashville! So be on the lookout for it :)

So I know I told you all that I dyed my hair green at the end of March, however as you can see I have been swept up in a wig craze! I received this lovely in the mail last week after ordering it from a site online. I'm so in love with it - the cut, the dusty rose color, and especially being able to throw it on before work in the morning when I don't feel like messing with my hair! However, if you are all still wondering what my real hair looks like at the moment, Carmen from Closet Case Vintage took some great behind the scenes photos at fashion week that I show up in!

Anyway, Naked Without Us is just ONE week away, and I still have so much to do. I hate being such a procrastinator...I know that all next week I will be pulling my hair out trying to get everything done! I can't wait to show you all what I end up with, though :)

Last fall I ended up jumping on the wig bandwagon (thanks to Kaelah over at Little Chief Honeybee! I wore it a lot around Christmas time and since then it's just been sitting on a hat box by my fireplace. Last week I was feeling a bit lazy with my hair and threw it on before I went to work. I absolutely love the rapunzel-like look it gives me, and it's also just fun to change things up a bit sometimes. The only downside is that it's kind of like wearing a fur coat on my head when it's hot out, so my wigs day may be limited...

Some snapshots of the lovely leather and suede booties I bought from Anthropologie last week. I wore them to go and get coffee the other day with mustard knee high stockings!

Since it's been AGES since my last update, here is what has been going on in my life (in bullet form!)

* March was probably the busiest month I've had since last fall when I was preparing to graduate! I went on vacation with my family to San Francisco, went to SXSW with my friend Laura, and volunteered for Nashville's first Fashion Week! (Worked with Traver Rains, formerly of Heatherette....he taught me how to saran wrap a dress- like a turkey! More on that later..., was intimidated by Kelly Cutrone -she DOES know what she's doing when it comes to back of house, though! etc). I also met some amazing people, many of which I'm sure will become lifelong friends!

*Worked extensively on my spring collection, part of which is currently on the racks at Nashville's Local Honey (For photos of current Love Simone things click on my facebook page to the right!), and the other 8 looks will be shown at Naked Without Us: Fashion & Music Festival Friday May 13th at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville! I'm excited to be showing alongside one of the girls I worked with during fashion week, Amy Breen of amy.b designs!

*In between those time consuming/stress-inducing activities, I was incredibly ill with the flu for what seemed like an eternity, dyed my hair blue and green, and as you can see above...finally figured out how to make my blog photos a decent size!

This entire week it has been so lovely and mild out! The other day I put on one of my favorite dresses and my new shoes (tired of seeing these guys yet? No? Me neither!) for a day of running errands and sewing. It was warm enough outside to go without a jacket as well. Did you all hear that Target is re-releasing some of the best sellers of its past Go International designers?? I can't wait to snatch up some of those Rodarte dresses that I couldn't get my hands on the first time around.

A few days ago I also bought my ticket to see Kelly Cutrone speak when she comes to Nashville in a month for Nashville Fashion Week! Anyone in Nashville interested in seeing her as well can buy their tickets HERE! I also signed up to be a volunteer that week for the shows as well. Exciting things!

This blouse is probably one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. I bought in November (?) when Erin Fetherston had a sample sale on her website! She's definitely in my top 10 favorite designers...her pieces are extremely feminine but not overdone. This blouse is made of a cream silk wool with beautiful covered buttons and perfect little shoulder pads! I love it because I can wear it with jeans and combat boots and still feel a little bit girly.

The hat is something my mom probably got at an estate sale in NH at some point and it's just been kind of hanging out in my room ever since. I remember finding it last summer and wanting to wear it once it got cold. Honestly, it's not the best thing when it comes to warmth as it doesn't even have a lining (just some elastic for a good fit!), but it sure is fun.

Last night I ate ice cream for dinner and today I am getting ready for a shopping party I'm throwing tomorrow for a traveling boutique one of my close friends Aubree just started! (It's called Fringe & Lace...if you live in Tennessee you HAVE to check it out!)

Little Things

Here are a few things I received for Christmas (late to that party, I know!)...but they are so sweet I simply had to share them with you!

The first is a darling little book called The Little Dictionary of Fashion. It's by Christian Dior and was first written in the 1950s. There are pages and pages of fashion advice from the master himself...including the fact that one should never over-accessorize, and the difference between day-time and evening dresses and suits!

The second book is probably the newest love of my life. It's called The Black Apple Paperdoll Primer, and it's written and illustrated by the lovely Emily Winfield Martin. Anyone who had a love for cutting out little paper dolls as a child would LOVE this book. It gives detailed instructions on how to scan in and print out the dolls and their outfits if you do not wish to cut up the book, and even how to create your own little dolls! I think my favorite part, though, is the biographies of each doll. For example, Violaine (as pictured above)

"is happy only in the cool darkness of her black-and-white photography lab. There, with nothing but her photo chemicals and trays of partially developed images her company, she can listen to her music and wonder why no one reads poetry anymore."

So thank you to my darling friends Aubree and Natalie for knowing me so well. What great presents, right?

Oh, and I must not forget the charming scarf in the background. That little guy is from Kate Spade! It was handmade by a woman in Bosnia (who even signed the little tag that came attached, for a program called "Hand in Hand: Women for Women International". This program helps women in war-torn countries that have been survivors of violence and conflict by offering them employment to help rebuild their lives! What better way to support such a great cause than to purchase what is probably the cutest scarf I've ever laid eyes on?! *For more info about this cause you can go to www.womenforwomen.org!

Inspiration: Blythe Dolls

For the past 5 months, my poor sewing machine has been sitting all by its lonesome gathering dust. A few weeks ago I was putting together a moodboard for my spring collection and kept coming across pictures online of Blythe dolls. My favorite is the last one...with the green hair and vintage floral print dresses. So lovely!

Today I worked on some pieces I'm doing for a charity event in a few weeks for the Human Society and reworked some vintage pieces for my collection. I also stumbled across several rolls of velvet ribbon I ordered online over the summer and decided to use them to make some headbands!

Today I woke up and saw that it was 65 degrees out today (although quite windy...which you can probably tell in my photos)! All week I've been kind of a bum in pajamas and slippers (my hours were cut after Christmas...gotta love retail!), so I forced myself to get dressed up and motivated to do some sewing today. I have several projects I need to get moving on (such as two couture pieces for a doggy fashion show hosted by the Humane Society!). Granted, I still didn't get out of bed until noon....but it's a start! What do you all do to get motivated?

Ps: Happy New Years Eve! I'm not sure what my plans are just yet, but I'm definitely planning on wearing the Betsey dress in the previous post!

So I've finally had a few spare moments this week...Tuesday My mom, sister and I went shopping and stopped by Venus and Mars to look at what was left. I found this lovely white sheer ruffle blouse, an amazing pink pleated bed jacket..and even walked away with one of those large feathers that used to adorn the shop (Thanks Talvin :). The tights are result of a Gilt Groupe shopping binge in which I purchased several pairs of Cynthia Rowley tights last month, and the shoes...well the shoes are the newest addition to my coveted collection of Jeffrey Campbells! They're the perfect blend of a wedge and a mary-jane shoe...and decidedly comfortable enough to traipse around the house on Thanksgiving :)

Today I am hanging out with my family and my darling cats, making pies, croissants, and of course, turkey!

1.) I'm graduating from college in FOUR WEEKS!! This means I'm up to my eyeballs in final projects, papers, and tying up loose ends at my job on campus before December 17th...ah!

2.) I got that job I was interviewing for!!! YAY. If you follow my twitter you have probably figured out where it is, and I LOVE it.

3.) All of the above have left me crawling into bed every night at an ungodly hour, and waking up at one the next morning too...

Like I said in the previous post, it's finally beginning to feel like fall down here in Tennessee. The leaves are falling, the wind is blowing, and in the mornings it's down to a crisp 55 degrees (unfortunately by the afternoons it's still up in the 70s, but that's a minor detail...). This is the first fall where I won't be traveling back up to NH even for just a few days since my family is down here now. I'm wistfully thinking of the gorgeous leaves in my old neighborhood, chilly afternoon drives up to the mountains, and hot apple cider. Oh, and of course being incredibly jealous that their fall is in full swing up in New England (and probably has been for over a month!). To celebrate autumn's slow but sure creeping presence down South, I've made a little wishlist on my favorite site to peruse for outfit inspiration, gifts, and of course, fun wishlists (that I pleadingly send to my parents around Christmas-time and Birthdays as well :).

It was so difficult to narrow down my choices, my wishlist was full of fun blouses with bows and peter pan collars, a striped skirt, a pair of cream clogs, and many lovely fall dresses! I was most taken with the green coat, which seems as though it would be the perfect solution to this transitional period of seasons that Nashville is experiencing, something that is not too light yet not too heavy of a coat. Paired with knee socks, a lovely and cozy looking cream dress (I can't even begin to tell you how obsessed with cream I am right now!), those fun little chunky heels, and a collegiate satchel (which is unfortunately sold out...boo hoo). Last but not least, I added the adorable pom pom head band for a pop of color and whimsy..very Sonia Rykiel F/W 2010, no?

Now I'm off to do a bit of studying and paper writing..oh and LOTS of tea drinking (caffeine is the only thing that will get me through it all!) Happy Sunday Darlings!

I loved this outfit so much over the summer that I decided to put it on again! Only now since it is a bit cooler (finally!), I added tights, boots, and a little jacket. It's one of those outfits that makes me feel really awesome all day, a lacy, sparkly, combat boot mood-booster for sure! Yesterday I had to take my exit exam at college and it covered everything I've learned in the past 4 years in my business classes (eek!). So naturally, I needed an extra special ensemble! Later on I treated myself to a pedicure, Sweet Ceces (to DIE for frozen yogurt in Tennessee!), and even landed myself a job interview for next week at the company I REALLY want to work for! So besides the test, it was a pretty lovely Friday!

Two weekends ago I went to go and see Best Coast with some friends. I decided to let my hair dry naturally and not mess with it for the first time in months! After that night, I did revert back to the hot rolling...it's just so easy and makes my hair feel so smooth and chic!

I also wore my new little desert booties (an early birthday present!), and my favorite bag!

The Lazy Girl's Outfit Post [An Ode to Photobooth]

Yesterday I got my hair done (yay bright red that will unfortunately fade in about 2-3 weeks) and went to Target and picked up this darling Tucker for Target blouse! I'm in love. I'm at work and didn't have time to take outfit photos this morning, so here's the next best (addicting) thing: Photobooth photos! Terrible quality, but that little "3..2..1" countdown and camera flash sound are just so pleasing, no?

*Photobooth is also obviously my excuse to take rather creepy closeup photos of my face. Apologies to those offended by the magnified view of my nose/pores/makeup...

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest was by far both mine and Hannah's favorite city that we visited while I was over in Europe. We took the overnight train (same as we did for Paris) from Munich, and arrived to our sweet little weekend apartment right in the middle of the city. We decided to be full on tourists, with the guided bus/boat/walking tours, but it was definitely worth it. Hungary as a whole has such an interesting, rich history. Budapest is small but had a lot to see. We saw some breathtaking architecture, and even went to a museum housed in an old communist building where they used to torture political prisoners (eek!). Our favorite part, though, was getting to use their currency. Their economy is incredibly low right now, and even though they are part of the EU, they haven't converted over to the Euro yet. Basically, 1 Euro= 280 forints. So we would be buying lunch that cost 2500 forints, handing over "1000" bills. It was sort of what I would imagine using lira would have been like....That said, everything was VERY inexpensive. One night we went to the local grocery store to get some things for dinner, bought champagne, bread, butter, cream, cheese, and soda, and the total was right around 5 Euro!!

Besides the beautiful historic sites, we stumbled upon a Hungarian artisan's market on the Sunday that we left. There were so many amazing local clothing, jewelry, and even shoe designers. I bought some fun gifts for my family, and jotted down lots of notes about designers that I liked. However, such amazingness deserves a post all on its own :)

Now it is time for me to get back to work. My schedule this semester (my LAST semester of school, ever!) is pretty full, but I have some outfit posts already on my camera to share with you all soon!

Paris: Vintage and Art

Here are some highlights from my (mostly) lovely visit to the city of love! Hannah and I met up with our Dutch friend Evey, and we mostly just saw the big sights. However, we stayed in a lovely little hotel in the Bastille area, and spent an afternoon hunting out vintage shops that were recommended by this blog I stumbled upon called Sweet Sassafrass. Her guide was incredibly helpful, and each shop was packed with amazing vintage, but unfortunately most were so overcrowded that shopping was a bit difficult. The ones pictured below were my favorites. Come On Eileen had amazing vintage designer shoes, including Chloe, Pradas, etc, and entire walls full of old chuck taylors! *Not pictured was an equally extensive collection of old Levi's!

While the vintage was a great highlight (even though I didn't make any purchases), my second favorite thing we did was the visit to the modern art museum, the Centre Pompidou. Pictured below are my two favorite pieces, a decorated screen and a collage of old corsets, slips, and petticoats!

Beyond that, we just explored the city, sat and basked in the sun in the Louvre gardens, and of course, drank LOTS of Fanta (I hardly drink soda at home, but there was something addicting about it! It's not like the Fanta we have in the US; it has some juice in it and is a bit more refreshing I think :).

Paris was beautiful, but I can't wait to show you all our weekend trip to Budapest, Hungary (by far my favorite place that I visited in Europe!).

Hello Lovelies!

Europe is AMAZING. Everything has been quite a whirlwind for me since arriving a week and a half ago. The first weekend we took a train to Landau, which is in the western region of Germany (about an hour from the French border), to visit our friend Peter and our cousin Laura who is currently dating him :) We went to a wine festival and I have a new way to drink Rose wine! They add sparkling lemon juice to it and it tastes fantastic! We also went to the zoo and just explored the town.

When we returned to Munich, Hannah took me around the city to see all of the beautiful architecture, churches, and monuments (We also squeezed in lots of window shopping and stops at little cafes for croissants and lattes!). We also went to the Deutches Museum, which is basically a history museum for German Industry. Some of it was a bit boring (all of the technical and engine things), but I was delighted to see the exhibit for the textiles industry - I got to see all of the machines I learned about in Textiles class last fall!

Of course, since I am in Germany we have been drinking lots of beer! I've been to several beer gardens (biergartens), including the Haufbrau House of course :) I'm not really a big beer drinker but I like one called the Raddler. It has lemonade in it and is very tasty!

This past weekend we went to Paris, but it deserves a complete entry all on it's own :)

I'm taking a spontaneous trip to Europe for the next three weeks! AND I leave tomorrow (eek!). My little sister is studying German in Munich right now, so I will be flying there first, then taking so many lovely little trips to places in Germany, Austria, perhaps Milan, and of course, the dear Paris, France! I can't wait to finally get to use my (read: rusty) French. All those years in middle/high school and college will finally be put to good use!

Unicorns and a Disguised Lace Dress

This morning was a bit frazzled for me. I woke up late, rushed to curl my hair (which takes a bit of time...I have so much hair I have to use all of the rollers, wait, take them out, let them reheat, and curl the rest of my hair!), get dressed, and take outfit photos. All the while I am running late for work...oops! So here are a few of the outfit I dreamt about last night. The lace top is actually a mini dress, and it has the most fantastic collar. I wish I would have gotten a shot of the back, because it is equally spectacular. In the winter I wear it with black leggings and boots, but I wanted something a bit more covered up for summer so I put my favorite skirt over it. And my unicorn beauties haven't been worn in a while so I decided to let them come out of the glass closet and play!

Today I am working, then tonight is my dear friend Hilary's 21st birthday party! So I will post tomorrow what I wear tonight...as I have no idea what that will be yet :)

The Favorite Floral Shorts

So, I have only owned these shorts for 24 hours, but I can officially say that they will become my favorite shorts. They are incredibly comfortable, lightweight, and have the most perfect floral and polka dot print. The best part? They were on sale for $12. I decided to pair them with the vintage heels I received for my last birthday, which don't often make it out of the glass shoe case. I always forget how comfortable they are. I ended up wearing them to work, but took them off halfway through the day out of fear that I would scratch them or something (they may be in good condition but they are at least half a century old!).

I also decided to wear another one of my little bow bands that I made this weekend. I can't tell you how obsessed I am with all of the leather pieces I've been using to make them with. Some of them have the most amazing patterns and are beautifully embossed, while the suede remnants are buttery soft and make the perfect little bows! I've listed a few of the ones I made, but I'm waiting on a shipment of headbands to come in so I can finish the rest! Hop on over to my Etsy and take a look at what I did get a chance to list :)

A Leather Bow and a Cameo by Little Bee

Last night I was rummaging through some sewing baskets and came across piles and piles of leather scraps my Mother bought in San Francisco a few years back. Left alone until we figured out what to do with them, I pulled a few out and started to make some bows. I then attached a few to headbands, made some pins with others, and am thinking of doing some hair clips as well. I can't wait to show you all the leather. Some of the pieces are just so beautiful, with floral motifs, patent detailing, and soft supple metallic suedes. I'm planning on (finally) updating my Etsy with some of these within the next few days!

Last week I made this lovely little puff sleeved bow blouse as a nudge to get myself back into some sewing (i've been an awful non-motivated lump when it comes to designing this summer I'm afraid). I'm very happy with the way it turned out, and even wore it last Monday as well...alas there was no one around to take some photos so I put it back on today! And I'm very very pleased to introduce my dear Little Bee, who decided to make an appearance in today's photos! He is my charming little cat (one of three), who is a bit of a wild child. His favorite post is to sit right in the middle of our dining room table (he attempts to do so at meal times as well..so scandalous!).

On my way out the door I changed out of my heels since I was going into work, and my Mother said she liked these buckle flats better with this outfit, so she snapped some photos of them as well. What do you think?

I wish I wasn't working all day, but I'm glad I get out at 5 because I'm going to hop over to Katy K's to go to the soft opening of Closet Case Vintage. Our very own beloved Lauren Winter of Blooming Leopold will also be selling her lovely vintage wares as well!

My Updated Childhood Room

Since moving back in with my parents (and in a historic house to boot) I have set about the task of updating my childhood room, weaving in my silly little trinkets (a mini couch full of cats?) with vintage pieces, such as the little birdcage and old suitcases. I was also thrilled when my mother gave me her glass front armoire, which she used to house her own little trinkets, but as you can I see I decided to showcase my most important possessions- my shoes! (Of course, it is a bit overflowing, with pairs on top and beside it as well...) You can also see the little card my mother gave to me a few weeks ago. I think in a dream world that is what I would want to look like.

It's still a work in progress, but here's a looksie at what I've done so far. I can't decide about the fairy lights around my bed. I have a lace canopy that I could also put on it, but I haven't tried it yet (not to mention there are several bulbs out in the string). I'm currently still looking for shelves to put up in other parts of the room, as well as some ornate frames or mirrors.

I've paired it with a faux leather metallic skirt from Modcloth, which one would think would be too hot to wear in temp's upwards of 90, but since it is so short it's really not a bother. However, I may be pushing it with my erm...wool...hat. However, I had to spare you all from my gnarly unwashed hair somehow, right? (Yes, I wore it outside today, and yes, it is rather warm atop my head).

Despite the intense summer heat, I had an intense longing to wear tights yesterday (Good thing I work in a heavily air conditioned store!). I bought this little sun dress at Target on Sunday, along with some 94 cent lipstick. I've never been the type of girl to put anything other than lip balm on my lips, and I was feeling adventurous again (it's this red hair, turning me into a daring girl, no?!). While it is most definitely cheap lipstick, I love the subtle pinky red it gave my lips, topped with a bit of Rose's strawberry balm of course!

Last week I was feeling a bit hair-daring, so I decided to dye it red! I would have liked it to be a bit lighter, but since it was already brown, they would have needed to lighten it first, and I wanted to avoid going that route (my poor hairs are already so damaged from years of bleaching..). I'm rather pleased with the outcome, though. *By the way, this was my inspiration for my adventurous feelings.

This week I am working at Feedback as usual, and today I decided to pair this ombre blouse (from Target of all places...okay okay...so a good majority of my wardrobe is from Target) with a skirt I made about a month ago. The print is one of the leftovers from the days of my Mother's children's clothing company. It has little cats and dogs wearing bows on it! Paired of course with my favorite heels to wear whenever I'm feeling a bit spunky!

This is one of my very favorite outfit combinations. I bought this skirt almost 3 years ago at a lovely local vintage place called Local Honey. I found these sheer tights (along with bright blue and neon green ones) at JC Penney $2 a pair back in the winter and I've found that they are a nearly perfect option to turn to in order to get my tights fix during the sweltering summer heat (It's 97 here in Nashville at the moment, ick!).

You can also get a peak of our downstairs entryway and "parlor" in the photos. My mom is so cute; I asked if she could take some photos of me and when I got downstairs with my camera she had staged a little scene with a vintage suitcase for me in the hall!

Last week I ventured down to Murfreesboro to drop off some new pieces at Mesh boutique and found that I had some time to kill. Naturally, I headed over to the mall, which has a F21 (and as I am obviously going through withdrawals since ours at Opry Mills was destroyed with the Flood *boohoo*, I had to go in). The first item I saw when I walked in was this lovely sheer lace blouse. I ended up buying it, as well as the gold charm bracelet I am wearing too! Paired with a lovely pair of high waisted shorts from French Connection that Hannahdoll left behind while in Germany, and some gold clogs I've had..well...forever (and by forever I mean at LEAST 5 or 6 years), this has easily become my new favorite outfit.

Last week I splurged on a set of hot rollers, and I've been rolling my hair every few days, a la Shirley Temple. It's easy and smooths all the frizz out of my naturally flouffy hair, albeit a little warm in the mornings to have hot rollers on my head in my not so heavily air conditioned house. BUT, still worth it in my opinion!

As you may have noticed, I've moved! My parents bought a historic house in Madison, TN, which is known as Idlewild! Complete with fireplaces in every room, chandeliers, vintage style bathrooms, and even 3 ghosts (I've yet to make contact, but updates will ensue when it happens)! I'm still working on decorating, but have set up my fireplace area with my hefty (nearing absurd) collection of vintage suitcases, a vintage chair found in a friend's basement (that desperately needs to be re-upholstered!), and other bits and bobs. I think I want a large vintage mirror to put above the mantle....

So lately, as I've said before, I've found my little fashion-bipolar self waking up some days and drifting immediately to floral sundresses and cream colored gauzey blouses, while others I feel like taking on a more somber persona with a a simple black cotton dress, heels with black satin ribbons, or lots of black lace! My first inspirations for these dark summer days were from these two images:

In an attempt to inject my wardrobe with some girlish summery pieces, I of course immediately landed on anything and everything floral. Dreaming of days at Centennial Park reading in the shade and sunny afternoons at the pool in a vintage style swimsuit, I decided upon the essentials: a casual and comfortable playsuit, chic heels, a face-shading hat, a light scarf and cardigan for the heavily air conditioned boutiques and cafes, as well as some productive summer reading! (Because summer is about projects, right?)

While I am most certainly yearning for these incredibly feminine floral darlings, there is of course the other side of myself (everyone has this right?) that wants to embrace that sort of victorian goth black summer ensembles I have been seeing (that sounds like a total oxymoron...black..summer?). Well if this notion is leaving all of you confused and thinking I'm a bit of a crazy person, fear not! -sewing like crazy for the Naked Without Us Emerging Designers Show (*WHICH BY THE WAY is tomorrow night at the Mercy Lounge! 7 PM $10 :)
-other life craziness.

After this weekend, everything should slow down a bit and I will be able to post more regularly.

To Grandmother's House We Go!

Some of my most treasured memories growing up are of a place tucked in the woods of southern New Hampshire called Pickity Place. It is a 200 year old house that was used as inspiration for the illustrations of the 1948 version of "Little Red Riding Hood". Today it is not only a quaint museum to the story, but also an amazing place to eat lunch. They have their own herb and vegetable gardens, and beautiful flowers in the summer. They have a set menu for each month, and this month's was absolutely delicious.

I must say, though, that when you're a small child, yummy vegetable laden entrees don't seem so appealing. When my sister and I were younger, we would get Pickity Place's version of a happy meal...Little Red Riding Hood's basket with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an apple, and a postcard to send to Grandma. We always showed up in full Little Red attire, with our handmade red cloaks. Our journey to Pickity was always well worth it, even when venturing down the winding roads through the woods (our Mother would scare us with tales of the wolf peering out from the trees watching us).

BUT, I digress a bit. I took pictures of our absolutely delicious 5 course meal of garlic and tomato dip, roasted yellow pepper soup with rice and thyme, a three-bean salad, irish farmhouse bread with chive butter, bacon, ricotta and spinach pastry with broccoli polonaise and a maple fudge bar with orange creme anglaise! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it all...

If you're ever in NH, you must visit (especially in the summer, when you can visit the gardens!)

Boston in Rodarte

On Wednesday night Hannah and I went to Boston to visit some friends. Shane had just gotten a new back drop ("Anthropologie Grey" as he dubbed it) so we decided to have a mini photo shoot. I had just snatched up some of the leftover clearance Rodarte items from Target and was excited to wear the pink tulle blouse! Shane used to come over and take fun pictures all the time in high school, but I always feel awkward in front of the camera. You can probably tell.... :)

So I am home in New Hampshire on Spring Break for the week. Possibly the last time I will be up in New England for a very long time. My family is moving to Tennessee (very exciting!), but it is surely sad to say goodbye to the house and area I grew up in.

This week I am relaxing, sleeping in late, doing some last minute sewing, reading, and doing some lovely tax free shopping!

I've been partially keeping up with the Fall 2010 shows, but it always seems like such overkill even posting about all the shows I like, because...well, every other blogger out there is doing the same thing. However, I was completely taken with Sonia Rykiel's nude and beige knits. Exactly what I want to wear now...perhaps because I have changed my hair and now feel like changing up my wardrobe (Don't you think brown hair and nude tones look lovely)? And well, I don't feel like waiting for fall to wear any of these things! Now, I say!

OH and don't let me forget the GIANT Pom pom! Someone tell me where I can even find one of these to attach to a headband/clip/some sort of contraption that will make one sit atop my head in the same manner! I'm sensing a rather ambitious DIY..hmm?

On Saturday I went to a Betsey Johnson fashion show, which my darling Natalie was modeling in! The event was for Harlow Salon's one year anniversary and they did all of the hair and makeup for the show. I fell in love with Natalie's hair and made an appointment with the woman who did hers. I'm getting it done tomorrow night and am feeling a bit fidgety with my hair as of late. Don't be surprised if I post in a few days with an entirely different color and cut of hair! Although it may be too difficult to abandon my fluffy bleached (read: damaged) curls. We shall see....

Last week I finally made up my mind about the pieces I want to create for Spring, and I decided to center them all on this paper doll print fabric. It was one of the fabrics I brought back from my Mother's stockpile in New Hampshire, and is from the early 90s. I put a lime green tulle underneath these, but I think a blue would look lovely underneath as well.

The last photo is of the one of the best cakes I've ever had. My friend Natalie took a fondant class and this is her first masterpiece! I also thought it was inspiring to photograph as it kind of ties into the colors I'm using this spring!

I've had a rough week or so, you know the kind where everything just sort of goes wrong, and you feel like a bit of a failure? Yes. It's no fun at all.. So, here's to a better rest of the week, please!

Fairies & More Tulle

Today I made some more Tulle Bow Bands with this lovely dotted netting my mom found at Textile Fabrics on Franklin Road. I may be headed back there soon to get more. The polka dots are soft and fuzzy.

My favorite part of my bedroom are my fairy lights. Well, they are just round bulb strand lights, but I like to think of them as fairy lights. They give the room the perfect soft lighting for sitting in bed and pondering the future and....the existence of fairies?

I have several routines throughout my day, whether it is waking up in the morning & putting the tea kettle on the stove, taking a catnap after class, or the way I wash my face at night. However, my favorite is taking a long, hot bath. I've been rather disgruntled the past few days because the temperature of the water has just not been quite right. I need water that's so hot I can barely think, so that my legs turn pink and I can see the steam rising. (Whether this is healthy or not will be left for another discussion, but it's just the way I like it!) Unfortunately, this week has been subpar in the bath water area. Until tonight, that is.

I feel the only other perfect description of the glorious bath is in the words of Esther Greenwood....

There must be quite a few things a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know many of them. Whenever I'm sad I'm going to die, or so nervous I can't sleep, or in love with somebody I won't be seeing for a week, I slump down just so far and then say: "I'll go take a hot bath."...I meditate in the bath. The water needs to be very hot, so hot you can barely stand stepping your foot in it. Then you lower yourself, inch by inch, til the water's up to your neck.

Once when I was little I decided I wanted gold skin. I pressed my mother's gold stamp ink pad against my arms and hands, only to create a huge..gold, inky mess. (But a fun mess :)

Pom Poms and Bear Heads

For Christmas my Mother surprised me with a set of vintage Samsonite suitcases. I had been looking for cream colored luggage for quite a while to stack and use as an end table, and these are amazingly perfect! When we went to Louisiana after Christmas, I was rummaging through my Grandmary's attic and found old issues of Cosmopolitan from the 1930s. When I was flipping through one of them, I not only found an ad for Belmont (back when it was an all girl's school), but I also found the ad for this entire luggage set! (It seems I am missing 2 pieces....which I will most definitely be on the lookout for :).

Hannahdoll also got me a pair of Kate Spade slippers, which are so adorable, and make me so happy when I shuffle downstairs every morning to make my tea!

I would have to say my favorite piece of the luggage set, though, is the toiletries case. When you open it, there are still traces of someone's face powder, and there were even some old hotel soaps left it in it. Pictured in it is a vintage fur collar I found on ebay, and Mr. Bear Head. He's one of my favorite presents ever. My mom got him for me when I was a freshman at Belmont. My friends all thought he was super creepy, as he's really just a head stuck on a wooden rod with some ribbons, but I think he's lovely :)

Things are going to be pretty cray-cray for me until the end of next week. Scary scary finals are upon me, and I have several drawings, papers, and tests. eek! BUT don't fret, because tomorrow I will be posting a sneak peak at the glorious Holiday Cupcake Skirts I made over Thanksgiving!

Now, i spent most of the day being quite studious out at my Aunt's house in Leiper's Fork (read: middle of nowhere TN *but quite beautiful I may add..think deer frolicking in the woods and windy scenic roads), and so I definitely wasn't in heels or the leather jacket. Hannah and I decided to do a little Thanksgiving Day photoshoot, the turkey was in the oven and there was nothing else to do but wait! I received these beautiful vintage snakeskin (I believe? But I'm no real expert...) slingbacks for my birthday a month ago. I had my eye on them at an antique store up in Hooksett, NH, and Mama Rose had gotten them for me! I'm still amazed at the nearly perfect condition they are still in. The leather is soft and shiny despite being probably around 60ish years old. I've been daydreaming about wearing them with yellow tights, so when I put on yellow tights with my navy blue dress today, I decided to take a few quick photos with them on.

Now it's off to the library...two days until I fly home to NH for Thanksgiving with my family!

It has come to my attention that I have accumulated several beautiful vintage bed jackets over the years, and they always seem to get pushed off to the side and forgotten about. Upon realizing this tragedy, this morning instead of donning my usual skirts/tights/bow combo, I went for a different kind of whimsical vibe (whimsical because well, how can one not be when wearing unicorn heels, hm?)

Pairing my pale blue, peter pan-collared jacket with rolled jeans and rather large bird earrings that have been collecting dust for several years now, I felt a bit refreshed walking out of the house. There's nothing like a good wardrobe change up to pull you out of any kind of slump, I think!

Bold tights! I've been adding to my already large collection (2 drawers full..ahem) of assorted jewel-toned, rainbow bright, patterned/netted/etc tights. well any kind of tights you can think of, but I've been especially drawn to the bold colors lately...the plums, reds, hunter greens, oh my!

Now I am going to cuddle into bed, for it's been a long Thursday for me....night night lovelies

This past Wednesday I flew out to San Francisco for my fall break to meet up with my family. On Saturday we ventured into one of our favorite departments stores, Nordstrom, to try on shoes and fun makeup. Now I will say that I had just about given up on finding these beautifully ethereal Jeffrey Campbell heels, but lo and behold while browsing they were right in front of me! The 7 and a half fit just like a dream and once they were on they were not coming off of my feet. I nearly melted with happiness when I paid for them and wore them out of the store!

I will say, however, that the nude color pictured online is much different from the actual shoe in real life. As you can see from the pictures the leather is sort of two-toned, but they are so perfect!

More on the rest of my trip later...I'm jet-lagged from flying for nearly 6 hours today.

So I found this slip today amongst the men's button-down shirts today at Goodwill (of all places...) and fully intended to sell it on my etsy, but then I tried it on...and it was love!

I also fully intended to stay in tonight and work on my textiles hw...but then I went out with some lovely friends...(love?)

I've been lusting after these for some time....perhaps one day they will make it into my extensive black shoe collection. They are on sale too....

And to go with them, a nice pair of striped tights. Not that I don't already have two drawers full of differently patterned black tights...but still... here

I might say that one of my few regrets in life is not purchasing this amazing cocoon coat that Erin Fetherston did for Target. If anyone has one that they would be willing to sell to me or knows of where I could find one, I will probably cry tears of cocoon coat joy!
